Carp bait

A guide to making your own bait for carp fishing that’ll get you a bite straight away

Basic requirements for making bait for carp fishing

There are many ways to make bait for carp fishing. However, to produce high-quality, effective bait, the following criteria must be met:

– The bait must adhere firmly to the spring-loaded hook. When cast, it should not break apart but must dissolve quickly in the water.
– To help the float remain afloat on the water’s surface, add foam beads; this will ensure better hooking efficiency.
– If using a sinking rig, the hook should be attached to the bait block at the base of the net. For a floating rig, each hook must be completely covered with bait.

Some ways to make carp float bait at home

1. Bait for river carp using the ‘lăng xê’ method

– Main ingredients

  • sweet potato
  • glutinous rice
  • apples
  • fresh strawberries
  • pure honey
  • sour fermented rice.

– Method:

Toast the glutinous rice until golden and fragrant, then pound it finely. Grind it into a fine powder – the finer the better. Roast the sweet potato until cooked through, then peel it. Slice the apples and strawberries thinly. Heat the fermented rice water. Once all the ingredients have been prepared, place all the mixture into a blender and blend until smooth – be careful not to add the glutinous rice flour straight away. Next, pour the mixture into a bowl, add the glutinous rice flour, and mix thoroughly so that the bait does not stick and holds together firmly.
