Specific control methods for soft lures: various techniques can be used to create jumps, pulls and shakes near the bottom, repeating water splashes and drifting through the water with varying amplitudes. The shape of the soft bait determines its range of movement in the water. It will create a range of motion corresponding to the movement of the water column. Consequently, this type of lure is particularly effective for slow-moving predatory fish such as catfish and may be used deliberately. Slow down the retrieval rate, give it a twitch and pause, or let it drop to the bottom and wait for the lure to sink freely. Wait a moment and repeat. When the target fish strikes, you will feel an unusual pull on the rod tip, whilst the line becomes taut; at this point, there is no need to rush to reel in the rod. Use the ‘cast and walk’ method to work the fish.
